Dominican Republic Vacation

This week I returned home from one of the most needed and rewarding trips I have ever taken. I, along with three friends, took a vacation down south to the Dominican Republic. We booked an all-inclusive vacation package that included flight, hotel, transfer, food and drinks.

I am the first to say that I don’t prefer to stay in a resort and lounge on the beach all day. However, sometimes, that’s just what is needed to recharge mentally and physically.

My friends and I booked the all-inclusive package just a few days before our departure date, which made this quite a spontaneous trip.

I had two weeks of vacation in April and I definitely wanted to go away somewhere, anywhere. My friends were only looking at beach getaways. To be honest I wasn’t one hundred percent down for that kind of vacation, at first, but the more I thought about the warm weather, the palm trees and the ocean, the more I wanted to hop on a plane heading south.

We all ended up booking seven nights at the Grand Bahia Principe San Juan in the Dominican Republic. We flew into Puerto Plata, an airport about an hour and a half away from the resort.

The hotel is absolutely stunning, the beach, the pools, the rooms, everything is great there.  One of the things that made me hesitate about this kind of vacation is the food. Buffet restaurants tend to not have the freshest or tastiest items to serve their guests. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food served at the resort. There was a lot of variety, even for a vegetarian such as myself. We all ate very well the entire week.

Excursions were available, however I didn’t do any, figuring it’d be a better idea to fully recharge on the beach than driving around the island for hours.

The hotel had many water sports for the guests to participate in for free, such as paddle boarding, sailing and kayaking. We took advantage of those as much as we could.

All in all it was an absolutely fantastic place to get my mind in a better place and relax my body. I spent my time there reading an amazing book; Mastering Your Mean Girl (which I will definitely write a separate blog post about), soaking up the sun, swimming and having all the girl time I needed. We all went out every night and made so many new friends from all over the world.

It was a trip of pure fun and friendship and that is exactly what I needed. I am so incredibly grateful for this experience and will forever cherish it!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thursday !
